Phil Bennett, born on October 6, 1971, is a British racing driver who started his circuit racing career in 1998 in the BRSCC Super Coupe Cup, finishing second. The following year, he placed third in the Renault Spider Cup. In 2001, Bennett joined Team Egg Sport to race a Vauxhall Astra in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), marking the first year of the BTC regulations. Despite a smaller field of cars, he achieved two podium finishes in his first four races and won three of the last six races, ultimately finishing fourth in the championship.
In 2004, Bennett participated in the Le Mans Endurance Series (LMES) driving a Saleen S7-R. The following year, he transitioned to sports cars, racing a Courage C-65 LMP2 in LMES, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Sebring 12 Hours (ALMS), and Petit Le Mans. His first appearance at Le Mans in 2005 saw him finish 24th overall and fourth in his class. In 2006, he secured a V8Star race win at Donington Park. He participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice, in 2005 and 2009, both times finishing fourth in class.
Beyond racing, Phil Bennett has also made appearances on television, notably on the show "Faking It," where he helped someone convincingly portray a professional racing driver. Today, he is a qualified flying instructor and owns the Gyrocopter Flying Club based at Silverstone.
