Before transitioning to GT racing, Hetherington achieved success in cycling. Before a serious road traffic accident in 2019, he competed for Memil Pro Cycling, winning a stage in the 2019 Tour of Morocco. Following his recovery, Hetherington remarkably transitioned to paracycling, winning the Paracycling National Championship.
